Mount Road, Flood Alleviation Project.

Mount Road Flood Alleviation

Mount Road Flood Alleviation Project – Project Overview

The project was to reline and refurbish a collapsing 225mm diameter storm sewer which was approximately 140m in length. And also to increase the system’s capacity by 66m3 to alleviate flooding in the area. The main lining works also included twelve lateral connections and two patch repairs.

CPC Civils would complete all works in less than 12 weeks. This would be in accordance with the Amey PLC’s timeframe.  We would undertake this while providing a service that was within the client’s financial envelope.

An innovative offsite-constructed dual pipe turret was introduced on the project by CPC Civils, lowering Amey PLC’s costs and increasing onsite efficiency.

The project would involve managing the issue of Mount Road vehicle access. Mount Road accommodates the Warburtons Ltd Depot (only accessible via the main road). Subsequently Mount Road could not close to the public to allow the team to undertake the works.

Furthermore, the final tie in man-hole was fifty meters away from a National Rail main line crossing.

To overcome the traffic management issue CPC Civils would work with A-Star Road Services Ltd. The partnership  would enable the design of a bespoke traffic light system. The system would ensure cars would not back up towards the main line crossing during peak hours.

This approach saw agreement by all stakeholders. This would include Network Rail.

Undertaking specific works to allow the road to remain open to the public would be essential. To achieve this CPC Civils would reline and scour 140 meters of the 225mm diameter pipe with a Cured in Place Pipe Lining (CIPP).  This would allow for smaller man hole entrance and exit points. Subsequently, this would enable a minimum of 3.3 meters of carriage way to remain open.

The design of the temporary works would be around having 40 tonne wagons loading to the side of the excavation.

To deliver the 66m3 outcome required, our team would lay a larger 1.35-meter twin diameter pipe over a shorter distance using plastic piping which allows more clearance.

The pipe had a pre-installed dry weather flow channel, was installed offline of the existing system. The team would then tie in at either end. This would allow the increase in storage capacity to meet the client’s specification.

Client Testimonials

“We have formed not only fantastic working relationships but also lasting friendships. I would not hesitate in working with CPC Civils again, as they are without question the most helpful, skilful and friendly partner you could wish for, and I look forward to developing this already fruitful relationship further in the coming years.”

“Well done Wayne Barron, John Donnellan, Pat Concannon, Conall Cunningham and the CPC team. We had a phone call from Paul Dennison (Severn Trent Water), he and his colleagues are very complimentary of the work at Kingsholm. They praised the tidiness, the setup, the workforce attitude and the standard of workmanship completed at the site ”

“I could sit and write multiple examples where CPC and your team have, in my opinion, gone above and beyond what would normally be expected. I would however just like to say that this ongoing attitude, and excellent working relationship, has not only aided Centro in 2 current Metro extensions it has also given me huge confidence in the planning of 5 further Metro extensions. It’s also made my job very enjoyable”

“Interesting weekend replacing a 12m length of sewer that had collapsed underneath a railway line in Bloxwich. Within 48 hours the team were able to diagnose the problem and work up a design and complete the repair. Amazing collaboration between STW, Amey, CPC and Network Rail”
