Water Treatment Works
CPC Civils were successfully awarded the Irton Water Treatment Works contract in 2016 and would complete works in 2017.
Due to deterioration in raw water quality and increased risk of pesticides within the raw water supply, the Irton Water Treatment Works Quality Scheme was developed and endorsed for construction. The scheme would provide pesticide removal and a pH correction plant to achieve effective clarification and reduce Cryptosporidium risk.
At contract award CPC Civils’ submitted tender programme was reviewed against final design drawings. Our management, commercial and site based team would collaboratively undertake the review. During this review labour was allocated in line with revised structure delivery dates issued by the client to enable effective commissioning and optimisation of the plant.
During the initial Collaborative Planning Meeting, various items of work were highlighted to have process impact where shut downs of plant were required to be undertaken. To enable this CPC Civils developed a Process Impact Plan which then fed into Yorkshire Waters Key Asset Management Plan.
In addition to the principle contractor managing the project delivery risks, some of which CPC Civils had ownership of, CPC Civils also managed internal construction and business risks through regular Risk Meetings held during the course of the scheme. CPC Civils utilised the Risk Management Log which detailed the following:
CPC Civils managed cost using a ‘cost to complete’ excel spreadsheet, primarily this is updated by the Site Team on a weekly basis, with a monthly review by the Project Team. Any associated risk allocation was reduced, or added and a cost forecast report produced.
Yorkshire Water operatives were invited and attended meetings. During meetings any programme delivery issues previously raised during the week before, were reviewed and next steps delegated (if these hadn’t already been resolved and closed by the team).
CPC Civils produced a monthly progress report covering health and safety, quality, programme, design, cost and risk.
CPC Civils developed an inspection and test plan, prior to site start, which was approved by the principal contractor. This was followed, inspection sheets were completed and signed off for each element of work as the scheme progresses.
