Following the canal boat’s removal, the haul road would need to extend through the 60m of breached canal. This would require the removal of large sections of concrete and other debris. We would also need to and make the surrounding slopes safe.
We would extend the haul road a further 60m to allow the construction of a permanent dam and the removal of the temporary fabric dam.
A tracked dumper was required to reach the bottom of the breach where the repair works would begin.
Upon clearance of the river bank an excavation began at the toe of the embankment to find suitable ground to begin rebuilding.
The rebuild was completed by laying and compacting layers of stone 150mm at a time, for a total of 14 metres. This would match the intact embankment profile either side of the breach.
